Photography Hack: Shooting Through a Sandwich Bag – Use this creative photography hack for fun pictures and learn a cool photography technique.  Using this dslr camera hack can help you create really cool shots while using a sandwich bag.

Shooting Through a Sandwich Bag…who would have ever thought that putting a sandwich bag on your camera lens would create such a creative and beautiful picture?

Photography Hack: Shooting Through a Sandwich Bag

What did you use?!

Clear or colored bags. I chose color that I found at Walmart for this example.

Canon 5d iii

Sigma Art 35mm lens

Step 1: Tear the bottom of the sandwich bag to create a messy edge. You will not get the same effect if you cut the bottom straight across.

Step 2: Secure the sandwich bag over your lens. It fits pretty good on my Sigma Art 50mm as shown, but you may need to use a rubber band to secure for a smaller width lens.

Step 3: Once the sandwich bag is secured, set your camera and then manipulate the sandwich bag around the edge of the lens with your hands.

While looking through the viewfinder you can experiment with where you want the bokeh from the sandwich bag in your frame.

Tips:

  • I find that aiming your camera towards brighter window light or outdoor sunlight creates the most beautiful glow while using sandwich bags.
  • Get creative!
  • Take multiple shots of the same subject with the sandwich bag bokeh in different parts of the frame. You may be surprised how much you love one of the more creative ones after you edit.
  • Have fun! That’s the point right?!Photography Hack: Shooting Through a Sandwich Bag

Wife. Mom. People lover. Coffee drinker. Sun chaser.

My obsession with photography began when I stumbled upon my grandmother’s Polaroid camera at the ripe age of 3. After going through rolls and rolls of film, taking photos of everything in sight, I realized how much I loved capturing one ordinary moment in time. Since then, I have evolved into a “lifestyle” photographer documenting simple, everyday moments of beautiful people and their loved ones.

My Philosophy. “Delight in the beauty that surrounds you.” Everyday, I try to delight in the land that I walk on, the people that I smile to, and the love that I share.
