First I’ll say Happy Anniversary to the most amazing man God made for me, Bern!  He’s my rock, my steady, my best friend, my husband, our Elle’s Daddy and it’s been nothing but pure joy to walk through life with him these past 3 years!

Over the last week or two I have tossed many ideas around in my mind about this post, I feel so unsettled on what to write, yet I want to write.  As a blogger I really do enjoy the writing part.  Sometimes it’s vulnerable because you feel like you are exposing the good, bad and the ugly to the whole world…in reality you aren’t.  There is so much of our life I don’t share because it’s just life, the daily mundane, the bad, the ugly, not pieces you want to highlight, or remember for that fact.  Let’s be honest we all have those moments.  I don’t try to cover them up, it’s just not natural to share those pieces of everyday life.  It’s natural to want to share the happy times, the highlights and the fun memories.

All of that to say…after tossing ideas back and forth from…”an open letter to my husband” or “10 Things I learned the 3rd year of my marriage” or “Why I fell in love with this guy”…you know you’ve all seen those sappy titles and posts…and they are good.  Just not what I felt compelled to write about….

What I do want to tell you about today is something that started between this guy and I 1,343 days ago.  It’s a gift he gave me that I had no clue about until many days later and several years later.

Today we celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary.  It’s a Wednesday so a typical day in the life of the Staples.  Bern goes to work, kisses me bye and I wait for our little Elle to wake up to start our morning routine.  He’ll come home, we’ll eat supper together and then go to church for Wednesday night Bible Study.  Then we’ll celebrate our anniversary this weekend.  We aren’t doing anything fancy this weekend besides working on our house.  We aren’t going on an elaborate surprise weekend getaway…we will celebrate the two of us and what God has done for us.  We’ll reminisce as we have been doing today via text…we’ll laugh about our wedding day and the anticipation and the excitement, we’ll probably talk about our awesome reception filled with hamburgers, baked mac and cheese and an ice cream bar.  You know all of the fun things that made up our day.  We JUST MIGHT even pull out wedding video DVD…that’s if we feel like it.  But like most we watched it once and it’s been tucked away every since.  We’ll probably grill hamburgers tonight and call it a day!

BUT…

1,343 days ago Bern took the leap and started emailing me.  What started with about 2 sentences (which he laughs now and says took him 2 hours to write!!) ended up with over a 300 page book.  If you haven’t read our story of how we met and God bringing us together you can hop over here for part 1, part 2 and part 3 and catch up.

I am so very thankful he wanted us to have something for years to come that we could look back on and cherish.  We really didn’t start talking too much on the phone until we met in person so our letters got very long!  Ever since we have been married our goal has been to get these letters printed and I wanted them bound into a book.

So Happy Anniversary to the two of us!  We decided this was one of the best Anniversary presents for the two of us this year!

If you would like to hop back the best day of my life and see our wedding details and story you can here –> part 1 and part 2.
anniversary gift idea

I could get sappy and I could get emotional and I could get sentimental and I could reminisce all day long, but I’ll not.

Happy Anniversary Erin, I am so so so happy for you. I read your blog and I thought of all the scrapbooking nights and the talks…. oh those talks. haha We would always end the conversation with God knows what He is doing and He has someone for you. Bern was a part of our scrapbooking nights and didn’t even know it. I am so honored to be a part of your past and your journey with your sweet hubby. Now, if I could only make time to see sweet Elle. Love ya lots my forever friend. I may not talk to you but I sure think about you.
