What to Wear for Senior Pictures

I’ve written a lot of other articles on outfits that photograph well for senior pictures, what to wear for senior pictures, senior picture ideas and even pose ideas for girls and guys senior pictures...specifically fall outfits are a favorite of mine, I love all things fall. Pumpkins, Scarves, Sweaters, Boots, Hats, blankets and the list goes on…Use these ideas to spark your own creativity and let your personality shine through your outfits!
First and foremost – I always tell you to start with clothes and outfits you already have! I know…I know…but if it’s something you always grab and love, you’ll love your pictures even more! If you want to go shopping…by all means I’m not trying to talk you out of shopping, I love shopping and most every other girl does too so go for it! Use these tips as a guide when you are choosing and shopping for outfits!
1: Choose colors you love – don’t just use the colors that are popular, if you don’t look good in mustard yellow…then don’t wear it! You’ll hate those pictures…choose what you love!

2: Don’t get too much bulk – Pictures will naturally add 5-8 lbs onto you…so if you are already self conscience don’t get bulky sweaters…if you want bulky chunky sweaters go for it, they are adorable…just know ahead of time that extra bulk may not be your favorite when it comes to your fall senior pictures!
3: Use layers – I love layers in fall pictures…layers i.e. a blanket scarf, an adorable hat or even a layer can be a simple addition i.e. a blazer.

4: Go long – if you are wearing a dress – go long for the fall pictures. There is something seasonal about the length of dresses…unless you are doing boots with a shorter dress. Otherwise a long dress with booties is adorable and so whimsical for pictures

5: What looks good on you – forget the fashion of 2019-2020. Go with what looks good on YOU! Not every style that is fashionable is meant for every single one of us. Ask yourself if YOU love the outfit…if you will wear it again and this will tell you if it’s “you” for senior fall pictures.

- Shoes
- Accessories – earrings, bracelets, necklaces, hair pieces
- Sweaters

A few final thoughts on your senior picture outfits…have options and bring options along. Your professional photographer will have a great eye for saying what looks great when paired with your location. If you are in a natural green space I would avoid getting a green outfit for that location. You don’t want to blend into your surroundings! If you are in front of a brick wall consider some colors that will pop in that location vs. wearing a rust or burnt orange outfit – you will blend way too much!
Change up your outfits plan to have a…
- formal outfit
- casual outfit
- school outfit – i.e. if you are a cheerleader in high school wear something related to that school activity
- college outfit -i.e. wearing a t shirt or sweatshirt to the college you will be attending
- semi-casual outfit
Embroidered Tops are so adorable with great colors, textures and personality! Here are a few favorites:
This will give you different looks for your fall senior pictures and a diverse range of outfits.
