What to Wear for Senior Pictures
Match Your Personality! It is important that you wear clothing that is comfortable and your outfit selections should match your personality and your own personal style.
Dress for the season! Try to stick to colors that work with the season. If it is winter time stick to warm clothes so you will be comfortable in for your session and the same goes if it is summer time.

Don’t Go With What Is In Style: Things that are in style do not necessarily always photograph well. Find clothing items that you can move around and sit comfortably in.

Add Depth and Flair: One of my favorite things to do at a senior session is to incorporate props. Props can add interest, depth and an extra flair to your pictures. While you might have recently seen photos that incorporate a specific prop, try not to use something that will not look really dated in 20 years’ time. Classic is definitely better and there are many fun options to choose from. Props should also be relative to the personality of the senior. At Bailey’s senior session, I spotted a classic Chevrolet truck in her uncle’s garage. He allowed us to use it and it was an amazing asset to her senior pictures. Mainly, because Bailey is a laid back country girl and she happens to look good in red! Remember, using props can be the perfect addition to your photos but make sure that they don’t become the main focus.

Tan Lines: Watch for tan lines that will be accented or show in your senior pictures.
Wear a Tank Top: This makes it super easy when you are changing outfits during your senior session.

What should you not wear for senior pictures?
I know we’ve talked a lot about what you should wear for senior pictures but I’d like to close with a few tips on what not to wear! Don’t wear a lot of white, it’s hard to photograph and get the colors to show well. Don’t wear neon colors, those as well don’t photograph well and don’t stay true to color in photos. If you don’t love it…don’t wear it. Let me repeat. If you don’t love it don’t wear it! I promise you, the pictures will show what outfits you love and feel great in and the pictures where you don’t love your outfit, it will show!

When should senior pictures be taken?
Take your senior pictures when you are ready! I know that sounds super simple, right?! If you love the fall weather and fall clothes – do your session in the fall. If you love winter and being bundled up, go for it in the winter! Spring is a great time weather wise and outdoors as well. One thing you’ll need to consider is your own personal time line for senior pictures. Are there due dates for senior slideshow submissions, due dates for getting your announcements and invitations out? Consider those deadlines and work backwards with your photographer and his/her turnaround time on getting you your senior pictures back into your hands. So there is no perfect time to take senior pictures but know there is a process from a timeline point of view. By the time your book your session, the editing and turn around time for your photographer getting pictures back to you, and you choosing images in your package, to getting wallets printed or invitations printed! Consider all of that!
