If there is one distinct memory from my childhood that is so vivid to me, it is family time around a campfire making S’mores. I am excited HONEY MAID Grahams, HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate and JET-PUFFED Marshmallows worked with me to create this post so I can share my childhood memories and how to make perfect S’mores!
Family time in our camper on a campground. It didn’t matter to us kids where we were camping. We couldn’t have cared less…we did have our favorite spots, but no matter where we were, no doubt we played all day…so much so that our bath water looked like mud water, we slept like a rock and we laughed till our bellies hurt sometimes…quite literally! IF (notice that’s a BIG if!) we made it to night time without crashing, my dad would build a fire in the fire pit…that is after he sent us kids out during the day to gather the wood! Then before we knew it my mom was bringing out three simple things from our camper…for our favorite campfire dessert – S’mores. Oh the delight to burn a marshmallow…only to learn one day how to roast it to perfection…not sure I ever accomplished that task! I now pass that duty along to my husband who is the MASTER marshmallow roaster- only because he’s so patient!
There is nothing quite like the gooey-ness that creates a yummy-ness when it comes to a good old S’mores! And nothing is better than making S’mores with family and friends – it always brings everyone together.
The summer I went up to Maine when my husband and I got engaged…one of the first things we did around the campfire that night was make S’mores. Here were our families, all together, sitting around the fire, on the beach at their camp, making S’mores. This is when I learned he knew how to roast a marshmallow to perfection!! Finding out that we both had similar childhood memories was quite fun.
We have a fire pit at our house and from time to time when the little one is in bed we’ll light it up and sit outside chatting and enjoying ourselves. Now that summer is upon us we are excited to do S’mores around our fire pit and invite our friends and family over. Creating new family memories with our little one around our own childhood memories is so fun.
Hopefully you have fond memories around a campfire and making S’mores…if not, rest assured it’s simple and you should add it to your bucket list! All you need is HONEY MAID Grahams, HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate, and JET-PUFFED Marshmallows as the classic S’mores ingredients.
