A very cold Friday morning, a morning the mister had already been given off of work due to inclement weather coming our way. The news forecast said we were getting snow…this is unheard of in our area in the deep south….we figured a dusting would happen at the most.
As we woke up and peeked out the front window there was nothing falling from the sky…we began to cook a big family breakfast…with coffee in my hand I peeked out the window again only to see snow falling from the sky! I quickly told everyone to come look…we were excited, we bundled up and as we were heading out the front door little Miss E said “this is going to be great!”…and GREAT it was!
The ground had a beautiful dust of snow and she and her daddy were catching it…it stopped and we went inside to warm up and eat breakfast that was waiting on us! I merely made the statement that the snow was probably over…*if* we ever get snow this is usually about it, just a good dusting.
Much to my surprise, a bit later, snow was falling again, the beautiful big flakes falling down. We quickly all got dressed and bundled up again to go outside. We couldn’t keep our little Miss E inside, she was so excited. We built little snow men and a family of snowmen…as the day progressed our snowmen just kept getting bigger and taller! She loved kicking them down, she ran around, squealing and having the biggest time ever…along with her daddy, who is from Maine so this was just a little bit of home for him, which thrilled my heart.
Around lunch time we came back inside threw our clothes in the dryer, put on some dry/warm clothes and ate lunch…while the mister decided to build a fire in our chiminea on the front porch…a fire and snow just go together! The snow just kept coming down and all I could say was “look, it’s so beautiful”…it was like Christmas around here, we were all so excited! So much so I told Miss E that this warranted no nap today…coming from a mom that is such a stickler for naps!!!!! You know it’s something…because this is the first day, ever, that she’s missed a nap in her 2 1/2 years of life!
As the snow kept falling we decided to have a snow party and call all of the cousins over to make more snow men and play. They all arrived…and started making snowmen right away…a whole family of snowmen were in our yard…it was so fun! After all of that hard time of playing everyone was hungry so we pulled out hotdogs and roasted them over the fire…made a pot of coffee, threw clothes in the dryer, came inside to warm up, went back outside and the same scenario happened many times throughout the afternoon.
It was a snow day to remember and never to be forgotten… I may or may not have gotten enough pictures to prove it!!
