Are you looking for family picture ideas on What to Wear for Spring Family Pictures?  Choosing what to wear for family pictures can be tricky but these tips will help.

The trees are budding the flowers are blooming, the weather is beautiful and we’ve all got the bug to schedule spring family pictures!  We see our local photographer has an opening or might even be hosting a special so we snag a family picture session and then the question is… What to Wear for Spring Family Pictures.  As a mom this is one of the hardest tasks because you know these photos will be plastered all over social media, your walls and even your desk at work!  So we’ve got to make sure every one is on point!

As a professional photographer and a “professional’ mom (hehe) I want to share my best tips with you from both perspectives!

Spring Family Pictures What To Wear

What to Wear for Spring Family Pictures

1- Think head to toe!

This includes mom making sure her highlights are touched up, the boys have hair cuts and your daughter has a matching bow.

My point is…don’t skimp.  Don’t forget about the details that will matter!  It takes some extra time but schedule hair cuts about two weeks prior (nothing worse than a fresh hair cut in my opinion!)  Get your color touched up if you need to and while you’re at it get your finger nails re done as well so you don’t have chipped polish on your fingers and toes!  You don’t want your photographer sending back your gallery of an adorable picture of you (mom) and your baby boy – a close up – and all you can see if your chipped nails!

2- Colors matter most within your home.

Your outfit colors need to coordinate with your home.  Sounds odd, I know, but if you are a minimalist well think of a simple color scheme.  If your home is in warm tones – make your outfits a warm tone as well.

3- Details

Don’t forget new shoes for “Johnny”.  Even if you think he’ll only wear them 5 times this spring get them…it’s so worth it. You don’t want “Johnny” in raggedy tennis shoes when he’s in a bow tie and suspenders for pictures!!!

4- Coordinate to your location for pictures.

If your spring family pictures will be on the beach – you may want to consider coordinate your outfits and look to the location.  Don’t go with an urban grunge look on the beach!  (Being dramatic but so you’ll get my point!)What to Wear for Spring Family Pictures

5- Mom pick your outfit first!

Let’s admit it, we are the pickiest of the whole family.  Start with your outfit and then coordinate everyone to you.  So if you end up with a super casual dress, make everyone else casual.  If you find an adorable fancy dress you feel beautiful in – get everyone else dolled up and fancied up too.

6- What are the trending colors?

Consider checking out the latest colors of the year.  Doesn’t mean you have to go with those colors by any means, but it might give you some new inspiration for picking out a color scheme and maybe even a color scheme you wouldn’t have thought of otherwise. What to Wear for Spring Family Pictures

7- When choosing colors…

Choose one main color and then up to two complimenting colors to that. Very simple example here but your main color could be peach and your complimenting colors are white and khaki.
