I love to blog.  Can you tell?  I have from the start of my photography career which started 8 years ago.  I blogged about everything and probably annoyed everyone with it.  But oh well. I loved it.

So when I’m mentoring others and telling them they need to blog…they give me a blank stare and the next thing that comes out of their mouth is ” What in the world to I write about?  I’m not a writer AT-ALL!”

Maybe you are thinking ” I NEED to start a blog and I don’t know how!!!”  — READ HERE! and I give you the steps to start a blog!

So today prompts me to help you get started in creating blog posts for you and your audience!

What should you Blog about?

First I want you to do two assignments!

1- Write down anything you can think about for your niche!

So what does your niche look like?  We won’t spend time on getting to know that today rather I’m hoping you already know this.  So get a blank piece of paper and write down everything you can think about for your niche.  This is the brainstorming stage.  Which will help you tremendously, and might I mention this list might be ever evolving and might take days to cultivate a list for yourself.

2- Next, write down anything that intrigues you as a person

Grab another blank piece of paper and write down your hobbies, likes, dislikes, activities you are involved in and whatever else about YOU comes to mind.  Everyone loves to hear/read a personal story.  So if you can add some personal story into your blog posts every now and then it really helps make a connection to your readers!

3. Now blog about the above!

Yes it’s that simple!  The ideas you wrote down.  The list you made.  Pick one and blog about it.  You don’t have to be a writer.  You don’t have to be the best speller–hello there is spell check.  You don’t have to have a lot of time.  Just do it.  Write about what you love in life.  Write about your amazing experiences.  Write about your business.  Write about what you love about your clients.  Write about what you don’t like about your business.  Yes just write.

4. Use your “seasons of work”

As a photographer there maybe “seasons” in the year that you don’t have a lot of sessions to blog about and that’s ok.  That’s when you pull from the list and ideas above.  Having a list helps you not get stumped and helps you grab an idea and go with it!

5. Be creative and use your blog to help others not just yourself!

During the seasons of not having clients/sessions to blog about write and create helpful articles around your niche for your clients.  Such as a prep on getting ready for a session.  A what to wear blog post, maybe you are a wedding photographer and you can interview a vendor.
