Photography-Tips-and-Tricks-1

So the question I hear all of the time is:  HOW DO I KEEP ALL OF MY DIGITAL IMAGES ORGANIZED ON MY COMPUTER?  They are just a mess and I can’t even begin to imagine how to organize them.  Hence my title ends with and —-stay sane.  It’s not hard…it’s not complex…it’s not rocket science.  You simply just have to DO!!!!

So here goes!

#1  Lets start with…TODAY!  I don’t suggest you go back for the past 10 years and try to organize them…at least not right now!  If you want to make that a long term goal- knock yourself out- but I don’t suggest you start there.  Don’t even worry about the past…just start TODAY.

#2 Don’t get OVERWHELMED!  Keep it simple and find what works for YOU.  What works for one may not be the perfect plan for another…take advice and tweak it to your liking and ability.

#3 Whatever plan you set in place stick with it and be consistent.  This will help you manage your images and become organized over time.  There is nothing like the accomplished feeling of being organized!

I am naturally an organized person and I like being organized, but I know that’s not the case for everyone and that’s ok.

#4 It’s a simple process…here goes!

  • Have a Main Photo Folder- where you keep ALL of your images.  Whether on your desktop or an external hard drive. Your choice.
  • Inside the main folder – A new folder with the YEAR as the label.
  • Inside of the folder labeled Year is a new folder labeled for the MONTH
  • Inside the folder labeled MONTH is a new folder labeled for the DATE and EVENT.  i.e. 06.09.14 Cindy’s Birthday Party

#5 When dating always put a zero in front of the single numbers i.e. 06.09.14 otherwise your folders will not remain in order.   It’s really that simple.   So instead of just reading this…will you start TODAY and get organized from here forward? Would love if you’d comment and let me know if you’ve found something that works better for you…I’m open for new ideas!!!   Lastly…please do SHARE! Wanting these tips to get into your friends hands!!! SHARE SHARE AWAY!
