Travel Tips for a Summer Vacation
It’s summer time and in our world we always take a vacation as a family. It’s the time of year my husband gets off of work and we have freedom so we take advantage of this.
I want to share a few tips that we have learned along the way…these tips help us not need a vacation from our vacation when we get home. You know those types of vacations, right? We like to avoid those summer vacations as much as possible!
1- Avoid Junk Food.
You might say, how in the world do you do that when you are on vacation. Ok let me rephrase that- we don’t avoid it completely but we sure do limit it. This has helped our fatigue and lack of energy during vacation…and the way we do it is staying at Extended Stay America which provides a full size kitchen. This is a life-saver….I’m able to pack picnic lunches, cook a dinner in if we need to…not to mention we can grab a light breakfast on our way out for the day of sight seeing. They provide coffee (a must for a traveling mama), oatmeal and granola bars. It’s the perfect balance for a breakfast to fuel us for the day.
2- Choose a vacation spot and stick to it.
This one is hard for us because we are such “go-ers” – if that is a word…when we go to a new place our tendency is to go-go-go…until we can’t go anymore. Having a little one has sure helped us slow down a little bit. So our new rule of thumb is the location we choose for a vacation spot is where we stay. We don’t try to travel an hour away during the day to see another city or area…we stick close to where we planned to travel to.
3- Travel and Pack Light
You are probably wondering how in the world can you pack light with kids? It’s possible with the right planning and accommodations that Extended Stay America offers with access to a washer/dryer during our stay. This is invaluable and truly lets us pack super lightly as we’ll plan on doing at least two loads of laundry on our summer vacation. The less we have to fly with or throw in the car the better off we are!
So moms, I want to hear from you…what are your favorite travel hacks for packing or even flying with your kids? We haven’t learned all of the tricks and can certainly learn from you! Comment below.
