Deciding What to Wear for a Photoshoot can be hard! These Photoshoot Dresses are slimming, long, flowy dresses for a maternity photoshoot, family pictures or couples pictures.
Looking for the perfect outfit for your next family beach pictures? Maternity pictures or even maybe couples pictures? Everybody wants to look fabulous and confident for their pictures so here are a few simple steps to follow in order to look like a star. Choosing your outfit can be so hard, but with these tips I want to make it easier for you. There are a few reasons why I love to suggest a long flowy dress for a photoshoot – it’s slimming and super attractive in family photos.
There are so many great choices when it comes to choosing a long flowy dress – neutral/light colors, florals, stripes, bold colors and the list goes on!
When you are choosing a dress for your pictures consider a few ideas first.
- Know Your Body Type – The right dress can be flattering when you choose correctly with your body type.
- Short
- Tall
- Thin
- Pear Shape

- What Colors Should I Wear? – What looks good with your skin color?
- Choosing the right color scheme – I love neutrals – they photograph well and beautiful. Neutrals don’t have to be boring, you can still pull in color! Choose a base neutral color then 2-3 complimenting colors. The right color scheme that coordinates will help you decide what to wear for family pictures!
- Seasons – What outfits look good in the right season?
- Location – Where your photoshoot location will be could have an impact on the style you go with. If you are having beach portraits made consider neutrals and soft colors. If you are having fall family pictures made consider going with bolder colors.
Once you nail down these three simple questions – you’ll be able to find what dress you’d like and look best in.
Photoshoot Dresses
Keep in mind that just because you are wearing a dress for your photoshoot doesn’t mean you are going with a formal or super dressy look/feel. There are some great dresses that are casual and relaxed to give you that feel to your family photos. I love that dresses are super forgiving in pictures and really make for unique and beautiful pictures in the end…pictures you’ll be happy with, I know! Dresses give elegance and a sense of beauty to a lady – which truly compliment your photos.

What to Wear for a Photoshoot
Whenever you are planning outfits for a family photoshoot here are my top 3 tips to keep in mind for choosing outfits.
- Mom/Female FIRST – always choose your outfit FIRST! Why? Because we are the pickiest out of the whole crew. Am I right? Once your outfit or dress is chosen you can easily compliment the rest of the family to your outfit and color scheme!
- Try On Session – Always have a try on session with the entire family or both of you if it’s a couple! Make sure your outfits fit properly and look good! Don’t just assume.

- Don’t over accessorize – but add some texture and accessories! It’s all about balance!
- Stay away from neon colors.
- Avoid everyone being in white.
- Prints and patterns need to be limited and coordinate.
- No clothing with writing or characters
- Make Up needs to be professionally done or at least if you are doing it yourself go a bit heavier than normal
- Nails – remove old polish, give a fresh coat of polish if you’d like, but at least remove the old!
- No pony tail holders on your wrist
- Iron everyones clothes – get those wrinkles out because you’ll see the creases/lines in the pictures.
- Shoes – be sure everyone has nice looking shoes and appropriate to the location. Also keep in mind if you are doing a beach family photos – ditch the shoes and go barefoot – this is totally appropriate for this type of session.
- Bring along something to bribe the kids (i.e. candy – just not chocolate or colored candy – something like smarties!)
What you wear may be one of the most important details of your session. Outfits must coordinate and photograph well!
Be comfy. Be you. Then in the end when you get your pictures back from your photographer you’ll be in love and want to display these pictures everywhere! Have fun and enjoy choosing the perfect dress and perfect photo outfits for your session!
