13 Small Bathroom Hacks

For our first two years of married life, we lived in a small apartment. This just meant I had to get super creative with how I organized our small bathroom to capture as much functionality as I could. I’m all about functional and practical – I’m almost a minimalist at heart, and it’s a challenge for me to see what little we can function on! You’d amaze yourself if you took on the challenge, too!!

In the meantime, from our apartment life, we moved into our small cottage on our property while we built our “big house.”  Well, in this quaint, cute, little cottage…it meant once again I was functioning in a small bathroom and making the most of our space. So, I’m wanting to share my small bathroom hacks I learned along the way…I’m sure you might have some to add and feel free to share those with us in the comments – we are all in this little space of the internet to learn and encourage each other!

How to I get more countertop space in my small bathroom?

1- Get rid of the extras like the bathroom spray or the candles! I know in your mind you are thinking, well this is what helps the scent in this small space. I get it…but with Angel Soft® with Fresh Lavender-Scented Tube – you don’t need the extras cluttering your countertop space. With the slight scent of lavender added to your bathroom, you’ll gain space on your space. (The Fresh Lavender Scent is applied to the tube – not the actual paper!)

2- Hang your hand towel on the wall – not on a countertop holder

3- Basket on the back of the toilet:  With a basket on the back of our toilet, I can maximize and place extra hand towels and on extra roll of Angel Soft® with Fresh Lavender-Scented Tube toilet paper.

Not only will clearing your countertop space give you more room while getting dressed – it will also make your space feel larger because there is no clutter. At all times, the only thing on our bathroom counter is a jar of hand soap.

How do you organize a small bathroom?

1- Hide everything!  Seriously, everything should have a designated spot, and when you are finished with that item, make it a habit to put it back in its designated spot. It seems like I shouldn’t have to expound on that, but it really is that simple…at the same time, be disciplined to follow through with that step.

2- Shelving: Consider a floor to ceiling shelving that can go over the toilet – you can gain a lot of storage space for towels, extra Angel Soft® with Fresh Lavender-Scented Tube toilet paper, and baskets for your loose items.

3- Minimal: Minimalism is key…consider only having 1-2 towels per person, if you can both use the same toothpaste, don’t have three options, have one tube. If you haven’t used the 10 extra bottles of lotion, ditch it. Is there a reason you have 3 extra bottles of shampoo? If you aren’t using it or don’t like it – get rid of it!

4- Hooks: Hooks will be your best friend. Get an over-the-door hook/rack for towels. If you have a vanity cabinet, get hooks for the inside of the doors for additional storage space.

5- Declutter the floor: Don’t leave a toilet brush in the corner of the small room and don’t have a toilet paper rack on the floor – find a wall space for a toilet paper holder to attach your Angel Soft® with Fresh Lavender-Scented Tube to.

How do you make storage in a small bathroom?

1- Vanity Cabinet: If your bathroom has a sink/vanity cabinet organizer, get wire shelving to make good use of the upper area of the cabinet.

2- Pedestal Sink: If your bathroom has a pedestal sink, consider putting a curtain around it to be able to place storage drawers or ranks around the sink.

3- Shelving: Use spice racks as shelving above the toilet, or even on the side wall of the sink to optimize that dead space.

4- Shower: There are all kinds of shower caddies that can help you save and maximize space within your shower/tub unit.

5- Baskets: I’m a huge advocate for baskets that are all the same, and if I can find them with lids, I’m even happier. Again, anytime you can hide the clutter and organize it, your space will look larger and feel larger. If there are multiples using this bathroom, designate a storage basket per person – and what fits in it is what you get!

Don’t forget to find what works for YOU. Everyone is different and your space is different.

Don’t be afraid to branch out and try something new, and if it doesn’t work for your space, it’s ok! Everyone is different and has different preferences.  Above all, just love your space to where you aren’t discouraged to walk into it!
