Photography Tips and Tricks
Thank you for joining me every Tuesday for the blog series Two Tip Tuesday!
This week I want to give you 2 tips on what equipment to bring when traveling.
Have you noticed I’ve been blogging a lot of tips around traveling? Well it’s the summer time and everyone is taking a vacation, flying somewhere to see family or taking their family out on summer adventures! Hence I think it’s quite fitting to share some traveling tips I’ve learned over the years!
#1 Pack Light
Yes I know, you’ve heard this before. But there is nothing more cumbersome than trying to take all of your photography gear *thinking* you may use it…lugging it half- way across the country only to find out, you didn’t bring what you needed or you didn’t use half of what you brought with you.
My first process in figuring out what gear to bring for a personal trip is I evaluate what kind of photography I will be doing for the most part. Will it be people? landscapes? walking around a small town? Am I flying? Driving?
If I am driving I will normally bring a couple of lenses along with my one camera body.
If I am flying I will bring my camera body and no more than two lenses.
For most of my trips I will bring my camera body along with my all around 24-70 mm 2.8 lens and my fun fish-eye lens! With the 24-70mm I can get a pretty good wide angle view along with a decent close up…yes I may have to walk a little to get a better close up, but it’s worth it! Why the fish-eye? It’s just so fun! I can get some selflies of my mister and I with the surroundings of where we are at, along with some fun cool landscapes or city views! It’s just down right fun. If you don’t have a fish-eye…and you have an extra couple of hundred laying around…it’s worth the fun!!! hehe Soooo…pack no more than two lenses…but for sure your all around lens and your camera body.
The lighter you can pack the better off you are in the long run!
#2 Don’t forget
Again these are basic…but don’t forget to bring multiple cards and an extra battery (or at least your charger!)
Why multiple cards. One of my most used tips I tell is this… Don’t go buy a HUGE memory card to hold your entire life in pictures in it. What if you loose it? Then your life is gone…ok I will stop exaggerating but by smaller sized memory cards i.e. 2 gb or 4gb. That way IF in the event you loose a memory card you haven’t lost the entire vacation. Things happen…they could fall out of your bag, could slip away in a seat somewhere, could get erased. You would cry if you lost your entire family vacation from one memory card. So buy several and change them out at least every other day. I try to change it out per day. I know I’m OCD!
Placing these small memory cards in a bag/compartment case helps too. You can pick one up cheap-and it’s worth it in the end!!
Are you traveling anywhere fun this summer? Please comment below, I would love to hear from you.
