Well without further a’do…because you didn’t come here to hear about my life…rather how to gain some photography tips or tricks to better your skills…so lets get chatting on this Two Tip Tuesday series where it’s all about composition.  If you missed the last post on the #1 rule of composition be sure to take a minute and read it…it’s the MOST important.

Fill the Frame- Composition

Rule #2 that we are talking about today is…

Leading Lines – create interest and depth to your subject or could be said Leading the viewers eye to the subject

#1 Look for lines in your surroundings

– Straight line- can take the viewers eye straight to the subject, creating a strong appeal.

– C Curve- it brings the viewers eye “into” the picture…the eye follows the C line which then brings the eye “out” of the picture.

– S Curve- Creates movement in the image leading your eye around and through.  These are easy to find in the roads and rivers!

#2 Once you have found a line in your surroundings, now step back and ask yourself how you can use this line in your image to make it a stronger more appealing image.  The strongest leading line is an S curve.

A few examples above, as you saw…but the one below lets take a better look at….

I took one image straight on and there is beauty but not a lot of interest.  It’s flat and lacks…The second image on the right –by me using that straight line to create depth and LEAD your eye, it’s a much stronger image.  Correct?

So a simple solution, change where YOU are standing to a new viewpoint!  More on that idea of composition next week.  Will you be back and join me?
