Attention Bloggers or those who NEED to be Blogging

If you have known me for any amount of time you know I am a blogger.  A blog is what my business started with and stemmed from.  I believe it’s the foundation and base for where I am today and what my business has become.  The voice that it carries is a result of starting a blog six years ago.  My blog is not near where it should be or could be…but it is what it is…I can’t go back…all I can do is go forward.  It is the heartbeat of my business.

So forward motion I go.

Yes not only am I a professional photographer, but I consider myself a blogger.

Blogging can be a full-time job in and of itself.  Like anything there are so many “behind the scenes” actions that take place to make this beat and have a voice.

Hence the reason I think so many are scared to start a blog or rather have dropped the ball on being a blogger.

I get asked all of the time how do you find the time to blog?  Like anything if you love it, you’ll find time to do it.

Then the thought rings in my head as I am asked this question, do I love it every-single-day.  Let me peel off the mask.  NO. Quite frankly no I don’t love it every single day…but most “I love it” days outweigh the days I don’t feel like blogging.  I do enjoy writing…it comes easy to me…

but a few more questions I get asked A-L-L of the time…and a few of those I’ll address today here on the blog…a few I’ll address during this coming week.

1-Are there times you get writers block and what do you do?

2- Why do you blog?

3- Do you think people are really following you?

4- How do you come up with so much content?

5-Where do I even begin with starting a blog?

6- Why should I blog?  Do you really think it’s vital to my business?

7- I am scared others won’t read it or that I am just wasting my time.

8- What do you find to blog about all of the time?

The list could probably go on and on with the questions I’ve received about my blog and how often I blog as well as maintaining a constant blog for about 6 years.

The question I’m going to address today is #2

Why do you blog?

While answering this question I’m hoping you as a photographer will understand your NEED to blog, in order to grow your business and give it a foundation or rather a heartbeat to your business.

1- I truly believe as a business owner I shouldn’t put all of my eggs in one basket.  If I do that I’m not being wise.  Whether it’s in the area of money, social networking, marketing or even an area.  I firmly believe way too many business owners put all of their eggs in one basket…then when it begins to diminish they wonder why their business didn’t thrive nor make it.

2- Blogging is just another voice of your business.  I believe it’s a very strong voice if you blog consistently and correctly.  It’s a voice that my clients can get to know me through.  It’s a personal voice.  It’s a voice that potential clients can know me through and see my daily work or rather daily life.  It’s a voice that other photographers can glean from and be encouraged.  It’s a voice that is me.  After all the “me” to my business is what’s the most important.  Am I not right?

3- Another reason I blog is I enjoy it.  Yes I enjoy writing.  No that’s not everybody…I know that.  Yet I haven’t sat through college classes to learn to write, it’s something I enjoy.  It is natural to me.  So blogging in reality is a passion of mine.  It has still taken work and effort on my part to develop…like anything it takes time to grow.  If it’s not a passion of yours, that’s ok.  It really is.  I still encourage you to take a step and blog with your business in mind.  I would encourage you to hop on over and join this challenge with Jeff Goins.    Don’t let fear hold you back.  Do this for your business.

4- Lastly I blog because it’s a huge benefit to my SEO (what’s SEO you might be asking? more coming on the blog about that in the coming weeks)…in a nutshell SEO is Search Engine Optimization.  So when you google “coffee shop in (insert your city)” it’s what comes up first and is noticed.  Blogging has a greater purpose and that is getting your SEO up for your area.  Be noticed.  Yet there are so many things involved with this last reason…doing it right and blogging for others.

Do you blog?  If so please leave your blog link in the comments below as I’d love to connect with you and follow each other!

Are you scared of blogging?  Never have started a blog?  Lets start a conversation about this…it’s so vital.  I’m here to help!
