Miss E and I flew to see our dear friends in Charlotte, NC last week. As always I’m nervous flying by myself with a toddler, thankfully this was a direct flight. The type of flight you get in the air…they serve the “complimentary beverage and snack” you eat…entertain the toddler…pick up the trash and you’re back down on the descent. I like those kind of flights!
I knew what to pack and how to pack lightly –> like so lightly it was two carry ons. The diaper bag and our clothes bag! Boom! We made it through with no melt downs, now thats a WIN!
8 Things I’ve learned while traveling with a toddler:
1- Pack lightly
2- Bring their favorite things i.e. juice/snacks/toy
3- Don’t give them too many options they’ll go through it all too fast
4- Don’t give them anything “new” to play with or do until they are REALLY DONE with the previous thing.
5- Let them do what they want…within boundaries. I’m not saying kick the seat in front of you or play with the tray table…I’m talking about for the sake of keeping them quiet. If they want to bounce between books or phone play let them!
6- Food keeps us all quiet…pack lots and let them eat!
7- Let them get their energy out before you step on the plane
8- Be the last to step on the plane!!!!!! Less time with them stranded in your lap!
We arrived to our friends house, had a blast…pretty much between us two moms we had enough sense to not over plan. We planned to pretty much stay at home, eat, go on walks, order take out and spend one day out which was at the Discovery Center in downtown Charlotte. We counted that day as our exercise for the WEEK!!!!!!! Juggling 5 kids, strollers, diaper bags, dirty diapers, juice cups, snacks, shoes, jackets, camera, pacies, blankets, phones, water bottles…you name it we were done by the time we got home…and so were the kids -which the way I look at it means success!
I think Miss E’s highlight was the baby. She woke up talking about her and went to sleep talking about her!
We had a great time…and I tried to capture our moments together without keeping the camera in my hand all day long! From play time at home, outside, movie and a dinner…you name it we had a great time.
