It’s no secret every mom battles how to Get Your Toddler to Eat Vegetables. As a mom we are always looking to solutions for getting our toddlers to eat…I often hear: How do I get my picky toddler to eat? How do I get my toddler to eat vegetables? My child refuses to eat vegetables and fruit. How do I get my 2 year old to eat vegetables?
Sadly in our culture we feed them the wrong things and their palette’s desire those foods, and rightly so.
With my little E aka toddler in the house…I try to let her explore different foods and I know she will have a like for some things and a dislike for others. My rule is as long as you try it! Thankfully she’s really not a picky eater and so I’m sharing with you all today a few things I’ve learned along the way.
Get Your Toddler to Eat Vegetables
1. As long as she tries the vegetables.
This is my first motto. It’s ok if you don’t like something, there are certain foods I don’t like as an adult…but you have to at least try the vegetables and fruits.
2. She has to try it multiple times.
Not multiple times at the same meal…but multiple times within a few days. I think many times for toddlers it’s a texture issue and so if you can get them to try a food several times they may overcome texture but like the taste.
3. Give a variety of Vegetables and Fruits to your Toddler.
Be sure you are fixing a variety. I know it’s tough when they first start with table foods because in reality there are still some things they can’t chew…but as they can explore more let them. Open their palette to new foods, new textures and new ideas.

4. Sneaking Vegetables into your Toddlers Food
If you have to sneak it in…do it! These Veggie Go snacks are the perfect solution to sneaking in some great veggies for your kiddos when they wouldn’t choose them on their own! For the most part my little E liked these…there were a few of the combos she wasn’t crazy about but that doesn’t mean we won’t try them again!
We brought these with us to a play date with friends and let them all try them…for the most part they loved their snack…there was one or two that didn’t care for a certain combo but that’s ok…that’s to be expected!!
Veggie-Go’s Bites were the best fit for my little toddler, with no added sugar and 1 serving whole fruits & veggies,

5. Negotiate with your Toddler.
You read that right…negotiate. These toddlers are smarter than you think! On their plate will be something they like more than the other…let them enjoy it and eat it…then when they ask for more tell them they have to eat “two” bites of “x” before you give them more of “x”. Fill in the blanks as you see fit, mama!
This works for us most every time and then she ends up loving what I’ve negotiated with.
6. Don’t be surprised
Don’t be fooled when your toddler has the choice of french fries over fruit that they choose the french fries. If it’s set before them or even in their view have a little grace, because I’m with them…I’d choose french fries too!
7. Don’t be so hard on yourself
Have a little grace with yourself. Don’t beat yourself up because your toddler doesn’t beg for beets…it’s baby steps and choose your battles but celebrate your victories. Their palette will change with growth and development.
8. They are smart
These toddlers and kids are smarter than we give them credit so…if you give in once for them winning the battle of not eating vegetables on their plate and you decide it’s not worth it and you go fix them a totally different meal from what the rest of the family is having…they have trained you and you are doomed…until you decide to overcome this little battle!!!
I’m no pro- mama here…so drop your suggestions and victories in the comments below…PRETTY PLEASE!
