When cooking a whole chicken I have so many meals ready to be made, right away.  This Instant Pot Whole Chicken  is a guide to cooking your whole chicken frozen or thawed in order for you to now create some amazing meals for your family!  There are endless ways to make good use for when I use my cooked whole chicken.  I can use it in chicken salad, tops of salads, casseroles, soups, fajitas, tacos and more.

Here’s how to cook this Instant Pot Whole Chicken

Instant Pot Whole Chicken Recipe

Step 1 – Cut up an onion and place in the bottom of your Instant Pot. Cover your onion in water.

Step 2 – Place your whole chicken (fresh or frozen) in the Instant Pot, on the rack.

Step 3 – Pressure cook your whole chicken.

Yes! It’s really that simple.  Your Instant Pot Whole Chicken is ready to serve!  Now the fun part you have so many options when using this Instant Pot Whole Chicken!

Ready to make this  Instant Pot Whole Chicken Here’s the recipe card with the exact measurements.

  • 1 Whole Chicken (Frozen or Fresh)
  • 1 Onion, sliced
  • 1 cup Water
  1. Slice your onion and place in the bottom of your Instant Pot

  2. Cover your onion with water, approx 1 cup. 

  3. Place your Instant Pot rack over your onions and set your frozen or fresh whole chicken on the rack.  This makes it super easy for removing your whole chicken in the end! 

  4. Place your lid on and set the knob to sealing.  Pressure for 1 hour.  

  5. Now you have your chicken broth – strain this into mason jars and it’s so so delicious.  Have fun de-boning your whole chicken!
