When we go to Maine one of our favorite spots to visit is Bar Harbor. In all of it’s beauty and splendor you will not be disappointed wherever you go. From the quaint towns you pass through to the delicious restaurants you can find and enjoy a meal while look out over the water to the beautiful blue skies and boats quietly sailing through.

If you are planning a day trip to the Bar Harbor Maine area we want to pass on a handful of ideas and tips to help ease your day as you explore and travel.
- We highly recommend just getting in your car and driving! Yes use a map for a general over view of where you will be driving and what route you’ll take but don’t be afraid to go down a street you find intriguing or inviting…unless it says no trespassing, of course! Some of the most beautiful places we have seen have been a result of getting off of the beaten path!
- Get out and walk! Yes stop from time to time in the quaint village towns and go for a walk, pop in the amazing boutique stores and visit a delicious cafe for a meal or even just a cup of coffee!
- Eat a Lobster Roll aka Lobstah roll…you won’t regret this one!
- Eat a Whoopie Pie – find a local that’s selling a whoopie pie and enjoy it!! We never split…you can’t…if you are going to get one go all out and eat the whole thing!!!! I never regret that!
- Walk along the water – find a bay or harbor and walk along the water, look at the boats and enjoy the scenery
- Talk to the Locals – One of my all time favorite things to do as we visit a new area is find the locals. Talk to them. Ask them about the history of their town, ask them where to eat or where to go. They know the jewels to visit.
- Take Pictures – Never be afraid to ask a stranger to take your picture or to set the self timer and get a picture of everyone together on vacation. You’ll never regret taking the time to do this!
- Find a Restaurant on the Water – I highly recommend eating at a restaurant that has a water view, better yet you can sit outside and eat by the water!
- Find a Lobster Boat – Go to the docks and find a lobster boat, they are fun to see and take pictures of up close!
- Go on a hike – There are a lot of short hiking trails or small hikes to the water or an outlet…the views are usually spectacular so take the time to get out and go!
- Go visit a Lighthouse – Study your map and find a lighthouse, make your adventure pass by the lighthouse and go see it. I love lighthouses and reading about the history of them and seeing them.
– Find Sea Glass – As you explore the water find a bed of rocks and take a walk…go slowly and looking down you’ll most always find pieces of sea glass.
- Pack a Picnic – We always like to take a picnic or at least pack snacks and find a beautiful stopping point mid afternoon to get outside and enjoy God’s creation!
- Bring a light weight jacket! – Always always pack a light weight jacket or sweater, being on the coast/water you never know what the weather will be like…doesn’t hurt to include a blanket in there too!
- Visit in the summer time! I am sure anytime it’s gorgeous and beautiful and breathtaking but we’ve always been in the summer and it’s just divine weather. Believe it or not the week after the 4th of July is the least traveled time in that area…you wouldn’t think but that’s what the locals tell us!
- End the Day on the Water – Find a spot and enjoy the sunset!
