It’s nothing new that as a couple with children you have to be intentional when it comes to a date night or setting aside a specific time to just be together and spend time together.
We are busy. Yet that is nothing new in anyones world, right?
Before we had our little Miss E we always had Friday nights to end the work week off with a fun night spent together. Usually this consisted of going out to eat, finding a new place we had never been to before, using a gift card so we didn’t have to spend any of our cash or creating a fun night playing games and eating pizza. In reality it’s not WHAT we did…it’s that we were purposefully setting time aside in our crazy busy lives to be together.
Now that life is a little different with a toddler we still set aside time each week to be together. Sometimes we take her along, other times we have a sitter and sometimes we just put her to bed early and make a date night happen at home! One of our favorites is sitting on our front porch eating yummy food with our fire pit lit up! Now that it’s getting cooler, I see more of this in our future!
Creating a date night at home can be a lot of fun and here are a few things we keep in mind when this is what we opt for- because another dose of reality, sometimes it’s just easier to stay home, right?
- Choose yummy food that you both like but maybe don’t necessarily eat often.
- Decide ahead of time what you will do so your time isn’t wasted just sitting there staring at each other trying to figure out something to do.
- Play a game- we love board games so that’s always top on our list.
- Watch a movie- this doesn’t happen often because I’m just not a huge movie person but for most this is a fun one
- Talk! Sometimes you just need to eat and talk, cuddle up on the couch and enjoy each others conversation
- Bake a dessert or cook a meal together
- Dream of your next vacation and plan a get away
- The options are endless!
This past week we decided to stay at home…put our little E to bed early and enjoy some yummy fried rice, lo mein and sweet and sour chicken…plus play a board game! Tai Pei was our amazing entree (located in the frozen food section!), we both love Asian food but don’t get to eat it often enough, so this was a perfect choice to eliminate boredom!!! With quality ingredients, new packaging (which is super convenient) and the fact that I didn’t have to slave in the kitchen over fancy food!
Tai Pei Coupon just for you! This coupon gives you $1 off any Tai Pei single serving bowl! We leave town in a few weeks for a trip to the mountains and this is on our list to grab one night at the hotel! Be on the lookout for me to share more of this yummy-ness!
