Oh!
The season of baking.
The season of giving.
The season of going.
The season of busy-ness.
The season of traditions.
The season of not counting calories.
The season of stress.
The season of trying not to stress and enjoy the moments.
The season of nostalgia.
The season of being.
I’m trying. I’m trying really hard to balance all of the above yet landing on the last one…being. Being present. Being there. Being here. Being me. It’s hard. It’s not easy when you’re also trying to trudge through the everyday. Yet I have so much to be grateful for, so much so it overwhelms me at times.
One thing about this time of year is that it brings back so many of my childhood memories. My husband and I talk about “growing up”, what traditions we had, what memories we still carry with us and what our favorite gifts were. This….this is what I want to start now with our little one…creating memories that she’ll talk about with her husband and her kids and her grandkids one day!!! I know our little one won’t remember this year as she’s only 18 months old…but I want to start new traditions, carry on traditions from both of our childhood and I want to start making our own memories with her!
So since she’s still too young to “really” help in the kitchen and making memories around baking and cooking…I’m choosing to not spend countless hours in my kitchen by myself…she won’t remember the gourmet treats and neither will I…I will remember choosing to sit and read a book with our tree lights glowing in our living room.
Choosing my simple holiday recipes and recreating them to be a “little” more fancy is the route I’ve been going this season. Nothing complex…just brightening these recipes up a little! So thanks to my local Walmart I can grab our all time favorite Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® and two other ingredients and whip up a fun snack…and I might make it on repeat for a few more get together and parties coming up! I’m definitely following Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® in the social aspect for more inspiration around easy recipes!
