As a family we love to travel and are always up for an adventure. At the same time I really try to pack as light as we can and only take necessities. I mean after all the store is right around the corner if we truly need anything, right? When I pack I try to coordinate our outfits for multiple reasons…one being so we always coordinate for family photos when the opportunity arises…I know that’s vain but come on a photographer has to do what a photographer has to do. The second reason is so when I do laundry it sure makes it easier. So today lets talk about a wardrobe capsule when traveling, thanks to Member’s Mark® Ultimate Clean Detergent from Sam’s Club (online or in store) for making this post possible and perfect for our travel needs.
Member’s Mark® Ultimate Clean Detergent is the perfect clean for my family! You can snag an Instant Savings in the Sam’s Club Booklet ($2.00 off)) between 12/2717 and 1/28/18! You can’t beat superior cleaning performance at an exceptionally great value!
As you can see all of our clothes resemble the same color theme. Darker navy blues, dark grey and some dark maroons. The reason I chose this scheme is because all of our outfits will coordinate no matter what we each choose to put on on any given day during our traveling. At the same time between my pants/skirts and my husbands pants any of the tops/bottoms will interchange no matter what. So really we can make many outfits just out of these few garments I’ve packed.
BONUS! The bonus to packing for vacations/traveling in a capsule idea is that you can pack so much lighter and when it comes to laundry time it can all be washed in the same load! So if we are traveling and I need to do a load of clothes I’m only having to do one load…not separate colors.
How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe for Traveling
- Choose a Base Color (I choose more navy blue because we don’t have a lot of blacks)
- Choose Essentials i.e. tops/bottoms
- Choose an accent color – if you want to make more of an accent color theme, that can be fun too!
- Add a layer – be sure your layers i.e. sweater or coats go within this same color theme.
- Add an accent – adding accents i.e. scarf or sweater can change your entire look with just one piece of clothing.
- The idea is that every piece can be interchanged to match any pair of pants or any pants matches any sweater/shirt you have packed.
If we are headed to the mountains in the fall I choose darker/fall-ish color palettes. If our travels are taking us to the beach I like to choose lighter colors, airy styles and coordinate according to our destination and time of year!
Hi! I’m Erin, a Southern mama from South Mississippi, owner and chief editor of Sixth Bloom a blog helping mom-tographers capture their kiddos and life, talking all things home, parenting and how we navigate through life. You will find me living life to the fullest with my mister (aka husband) and our little two year old, Miss E, in our 500+ sq foot cottage as we build our dream house on our two acres! We are blessed beyond measure, love to travel, involved in ministry at our church and in between all of that we run two successful businesses together!

What a great idea to coordinate the entire family with the same color palate! Next trip, we’re going to do that! [client]
