Well I’m not going to write a spoiler alert here…unless you spoil it for yourself and scroll till you find the biggest news in our world. That’s your judgement call! Rather I’m going to build up to it in as few details as I possibly can! I am sure most of these pictures will look redundant to most of you…but to us it’s a labor of love. A step by step, day by day and wood by wood or nail by nail progress is being made!
Last Spring we had our concrete poured for the foundation of our house. This is/was a HUGE step in the right direction, right?!?!
Fast forward to the beginning of the summer (2016) and the guys started framing up the house. The guys being Bern, my dad and his dad which came down for two weeks. We had a few other weeks of help from church friends and friends whom we paid to lend a helping hand- or two!
The goal was to have the house all framed up and weathered in before we left for Maine on vacation which was at the end of our summer break.
Many many hours and long days were spent with the nails and wood, but the night before we flew out they finished putting up the Typar paper on the house and our goal was met- it was weathered in and framed before we left. We knew when we got back we would hit the pavement running with Bern going back to teaching that the whole project would pretty much come to a stand still for a bit. Sure enough that happened, as we expected!
Fast forward to the end of 2016 and we have all of our windows in, a shingled roof, rough in plumbing about half way complete, our hall bath shower/bath unit and the master bath shower unit…then Mardi Gras break Bern and his dad started onto siding! Yay! They worked on all of the upper peaks/gables so that those high points would be completed and the lower part would be easier for Bern to do alone or with help where he could at least recruit someone to help him who is afraid of heights! We have our back door installed – yet to be painted. The rest of the siding to hopefully start on and then it’s electrical, finish plumbing and set up the a/c installation.
Oh yes there’s a LOT left to do. Yet there has been a LOT of progress made and we’re happy! Is the end in sight? Oh I don’t know the answer to that question………………
But…..
We knew when we embarked on this journey it wasn’t going to be a quick one. Yet we didn’t realize all that was “in between” the beginning and the end…
Green means GO!
Happy to say we passed the framing inspection! YAY That’s the best news in our little world these days…now onto accomplishing the next inspection.
These pictures take you from now backwards!
