It’s no surprise to anyone that as the weather gets colder our natural tendency is to basically hibernate…you know what I mean…we want to eat comfort food, bundle up and stay inside. To a degree, that’s ok! Yet we still need to stay active and care for our health.
I’d love to share with you my top 3 crippling behaviors that we need to beat in order to avoid the Winter Blues this season.

Staying Indoors – Don’t find yourself being a hermit during the winter months and staying only in your online social groups. Find a social group to be a part of, a community group, look into your library for activities, a gym class or a church affiliation. When we stay indoors, rather than making ourselves go around others it cripples our mental health and anxiety. Get out and do, when we can be physically present and around others it encourages us and our mindset.
Focus on Yourself – This is one of the worst mindsets you can have…rather think of ways you can bless others. Maybe through a Random Act of Kindness (RAK) once a week or more, consider helping a shut-in or widow, an elderly neighbor or a new mom. Perhaps you could host a mommy/toddler play date at your home. Keep it simple with a small snack and juice…or coffee/tea for moms, of course.
Eating to Eat – You know all of that comfort food that sticks to our ribs…or other places!!! Maybe you’re like me and you love chocolate chip cookies on a rainy day…bake them, eat one or maybe two, then consider taking a plate of these to a neighbor, community worker or even drop off at a location i.e. police station or fire station with a thank you note.
If you consider all of this on the “flip-side”, these others you are going to be around, share a RAK with or even visit, this will help them personally beat their own winter blues!
Think of others FIRST!
