3 Christmas Traditions Every Family Needs
Fa-la-la-la-la!!!
Tis the season of traditions, time with family, memories made with friends and giving back to those in need. It’s no secret that holidays aren’t always glamorous for everyone, sometimes they are down right hard. When you take time to think of others during the magical holiday season it truly brings to light how our burdens are light compared to others.
We want to share three traditions that our family has been doing the last few holiday seasons…and traditions that we think you should embrace too!!
1- Give Togetherness to those in Need
Find a charity that you can partner up with to give back to those in need during this season. Be a blessing and I promise the blessings will overflow in your life too. The principle of giving can’t be beat…I speak of experience.
A great charity to consider is the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). What is the RHMC? Through the Ronald McDonald House(R) and Ronald McDonald Family Room(R) programs, RMHC provides places for families to stay just steps from the hospitals where their children are receiving critical medical care.
We personally know a family from my husbands church back in Maine, that just benefited from this amazing charity while their grandson was in the hospital for weeks. You can personally donate online at RMHC.org/donate
This holiday season, your donation to RMHC gives families with sick children the most precious gifts of all: joy, courage, comfort, strength and togetherness! Isn’t that what we all long for?
2- Bake/Decorate Sugar Cookies
There is nothing like a plate of homemade sugar cookies all cut in shapes of Christmas trees, stars, snowflakes, angels etc. all decorated with bright sprinkles – what can bring a smile more than this? Last year we started this as a family tradition and even did it once with friends! We had so much fun decorating cookies…at the same time our family tradition is one we want to extend and use for #3.
3- Bless your Neighbors
We live in a culture where we are so busy that taking time to chat and get to know your neighbors comes with being very intentional. We are personally blessed with amazing neighbors and we want them to know they are loved and a blessing to us. So this season we’ll try to bring a smile to their face and deliver decorated sugar cookies to them and spread the Joy of the season.
