I think this image says it all.  As a photographer you know EXACTLY what this message means and says.

Yet if you are a photographer…I want to encourage you to not look at the “busy-ness” of your business.  Rather the blessings of your business flourishing.

All to many times (my hand is raised in guilt on this one!) we look at the work load.  The shoots.  The editing.  The designing. The emailing. The calendar is full.  No free weekends.  Late nights.  Early mornings…and we begin to sink.

Sink not only in work.

Sink not only in being over-whelmed.

Sink not only in the load that we carry.

We sink into our view being distorted.  This is more harmful than any.

What do I mean by that?  We begin to relish…yes relish and letting everyone know how busy we are.  Relish in looking at our full crazy busy calendars.  Relish in late nights and early mornings.  Relish in the number of sessions we have booked.  Relish in not being able to get caught up in life.  Relish in the laundry that is piling up along with the sink full of dishes.  Hey photographer…or rather hey friend.  Don’t relish in those things.  Don’t relish in the fact that you’re overwhelmed and the only way to deal with it is to complain and moan…don’t relish in the busy-ness of our business rather relish in than the blessings.

Yes it’s a busy season.  When you’re a self employed business owner this happens from time to time.  We have a busy season and we take it while we can.  Because guess what for most photographers January is dead.  So we see the business, the opportunities and we jump on them.  That’s ok.  Honestly you should.  Unless it’s creeping into your personal and family life.  That’s when you need to draw the line.

Draw the line in the sand and create your boundaries.  Although that’s not we are talking about today…you should draw a line.  Your family is more precious and will be here in 10 years rather than the 10 mini sessions you’re trying to edit and you’ll not even recognize those people in the store in 10 years.  Do you get my point?  Prioritize.

Anyway.

See the blessings rather than the busy season.

Something I’ve reminded myself of these last few weeks is…

Prioritize what’s the most important and get that knocked off of your list first.  What is the most profitable is top on the list.

I want to encourage you today to write down 10 blessings that are on your business right now, in this season.  I don’t care if you’ve been shooting for 8 years or 1 year you can accept this challenge.  Then when you get overwhelmed and want to begin to relish in the “busy-ness” of things- think about your blessings and relish in those!

Now go conquer your day…you’ve got this…prioritize and relish in those blessings.

Would you fill me in on a blessing?  Leave a comment below!
